Visma has a smooth Giro day, but Vingegaard just misses bonus seconds

There was the withdrawal of Wilco Kelderman, but otherwise Visma | Lease a Bike can look back on a trouble-free day in the Giro d'Italia. The Dutch team managed to keep their leader Jonas Vingegaard out of trouble. The Dane made an effort along the way to grab time bonuses, but it turned out to be a futile attempt.

"We made it very clear beforehand that today it was important to stay out of trouble," team director Marc Reef reflects on the fourth stage. "The wind at the start made it a bit nervous and the pace was high from the beginning."

"As a result, we made sure we were well positioned at the front with Jonas on the climb and the following descent. That was thanks in part to Timo (Kielich) and Tim (Rex), who did a lot of work."

Alert
"We were alert on the climb and even had five riders up front," Reef continues on the team site. "It’s a shame that Jonas didn’t pick up any bonus seconds at the intermediate sprint in the end, but the most important thing today was to safely cross the finish line in the lead group. We did that and we can be very satisfied with it."

After four stages, Vingegaard is eleventh in the general classification. His deficit to leader Giulio Ciccone is only ten seconds.
