Visma | Lease a Bike reassures fans after Christophe Laporte crash: "Looks not too bad"

Christophe Laporte had to abandon the Ruta del Sol on Sunday after crashing on a descent. Bad news, just a week before the Opening Weekend. But meanwhile, Visma | Lease a Bike has reassured the team’s fans through a message on the team website.

"He seems to have come off relatively well," said team director Marc Reef. "Someone in front of him slipped and took out Christophe’s front wheel. He had nowhere to go and crashed. He immediately indicated he couldn’t continue, but now, at the finish, it looks like it’s not too serious."

Reef is frustrated mainly because Laporte missed out on a strong overall result. The Frenchman was fourth in the general classification and leading the points classification. "He was in a good position, both in the GC and the points standings. Unfortunately, that all disappeared in an instant. It’s a shame we couldn’t defend our chances."
