Visma | Lease a Bike targets Jai Hindley as successor to Simon Yates
Visma | Lease a Bike wants to sign Jai Hindley from next season. The Dutch WorldTeam hopes to find a suitable successor for the retired Simon Yates in the Australian rider from Red Bull-BORA hansgrohe, reports HLN. The contract of the 2022 Giro d'Italia winner with his current team expires this winter.
It is no secret that Yates' departure came as a surprise to Visma | Lease a Bike. Late last winter, the reigning Giro champion announced his retirement from professional cycling. The Brit could no longer find motivation after achieving his ultimate goal, winning the Giro d'Italia.
According to HLN, the Dutch WorldTeam and the Australian GC contender are getting closer to an agreement, but no deal has been finalized yet. The 30-year-old Hindley would be an interesting option to add more strength to Visma | Lease a Bike's climbing squad. Currently, Hindley is racing in the Giro d'Italia, where he shares team leadership at Red Bull-BORA hansgrohe with Giulio Pellizzari.
