Kelderman was one of the victims of the major crash in the finale of the second stage of the Giro d'Italia. The 34-year-old rider finished both this stage and the third stage. However, before the start of the fourth stage, it was announced that he would withdraw from the Italian race. It now turns out that he also sustained a serious injury from the crash.
"It is very frustrating to have to leave everyone behind after a good preparation for a major goal. But as a rider, you immediately feel when something is wrong," said Kelderman, who will also be missed by his team leader Jonas Vingegaard. "We will miss him in the coming days, but health is the most important," the Dane added.
