All eyes at the U23 time trial World Championship are on Zoe Bäckstedt. The British rider is generally expected to claim the U23 title with ease. The 20-year-old Bäckstedt has already competed in two elite time trials this year—and won both. Bäckstedt dominated the Baloise Ladies Tour and recently also the Simac Ladies Tour, where she beat notable riders, including Ellen van Dijk and Lieke Nooijen.
The biggest competition will likely come from UAE riders Federica Venturelli and Paula Blasi. This year, Blasi already impressed in a time trial on the Women's WorldTour: the Spaniard won the opening time trial of the Tour de Romandie, although that course was notably more challenging than here in Kigali. Venturelli recently finished eighth in a tough time trial at the Tour de l'Ardèche.

Among the Belgians, keep an eye on Fleur Moors and Lore de Schepper. For them, a top-five finish would be a significant achievement. On a good day, they could even contend for medals. De Schepper delivered a number of strong time trials in l'Avenir, although those were really climbing time trials.
