Wout van Aert will not start in the Bretagne Classic this Sunday after all. This was announced by his team Visma | Lease a Bike. After the Deutschland Tour, the team decided to skip Plouay and focus on the two Canadian classics.
Van Aert rode the Deutschland Tour mainly in a support role. "After the Tour de France, I took a step back. And when you don’t have the legs to do something in the finale, it’s frustrating. On the other hand, I did enjoy myself here in the last few days," he reflected afterwards.
Already then, the former Milan-San Remo winner indicated he was longing for the end of the season. "The Tour was pretty much the endpoint for me this year. After that, I would see what to do. But that wasn’t the right motivation to start training again in early August. You just feel it," said the Visma | Lease a Bike rider.
The rest of his schedule will remain unchanged. Van Aert still has GP Québec and GP Montréal on September 12 and 14 in his schedule before he wraps up his season at the Super 8 Classic on September 20.
