Zeb Kyffin won the seventh stage of the Tour de Langkawi. The attacker from Unibet Tietema Rockets stayed ahead with fellow attacker Muhammad Rosli in the final kilometers, holding off a charging peloton. The Malaysian took second and was equally thrilled. Arvid De Kleijn sprinted comfortably to a third place within the peloton.
The seventh stage of the Tour de Langkawi initially looked like it would be a day for the sprinters. The 214.9-kilometer stage between Melaka and Medini featured hardly any elevation gain. Along the way, there were several intermediate sprints where riders could earn both sprint points and time bonuses.
So it seemed destined to be a sprinter’s day, with eyes on top favorites like Arvid De Kleijn or the fast Erlend Blikra. The latter was the undisputed sprint leader for Uno-X Mobility, especially since the Scandinavian team lost Alexander Kristoff early in the stage. But as you read, it only 'seemed' like a day for the sprinters.
Surprising Attack Attempt
Just over thirty kilometers from the finish, Tudor Pro Cycling seemed to have things under control. Arvid De Kleijn’s team had the early break within reach when local rider Muhammad Rosli made the bridge. The Terengganu Cycling Team rider kept smelling an opportunity as his breakaway companions were caught 25 kilometers from the line.
Unibet Tietema Rockets saw the local rider still up front at ten kilometers to go and decided to lend a helping hand. Brit Kyffin bridged across to the Malaysian. The duo looked fresh, and belief in a surprise win grew with every meter. In the final kilometers, Kyffin and Rosli still held a lead of more than twenty seconds. If they kept pushing, a surprise was inevitable.
Always nice to see a breakaway surviving in a flat, sprint stage. 😍 @zebkyffin of Unibet Rockets took his first pro victory in stage 7 of Tour de Langkawi and the Malaysian he beat, Muhammad Rosli was at least as happy. 😅#PETRONASLTdL2025pic.twitter.com/k5CjWgaGSV

It was the stronger Kyffin who took the lead and pulled his breakaway companion along. In the final kilometer, a two-man sprint was expected, but the Unibet Tietema Rockets Brit quickly dropped his teammate off his wheel. Rosli didn’t seem to mind at all. The Malaysian from Terengganu Cycling Team was just as happy crossing the line to achieve a top result in his home region. Arvid De Kleijn won the sprint for third place.
