Stage 1 Manage - Lobbes (180.7km)
The opening stage of the Tour de Wallonie promises fireworks right from the start. Covering a distance of 180.7 kilometres with 2,286 metres of elevation gain, the riders face a demanding first day through Hainaut, Walloon Brabant and Namur.
The stage begins relatively calmly, but the route becomes increasingly selective as the kilometres pass. Along the way, the peloton will tackle several climbs and technical sections, including the Côte de Trémouroux, the Mur de Thuin, and the steep roads around Charleroi and Thuin. Especially in the final fifty kilometres, the efforts begin to pile up, creating opportunities for attackers to make the difference.
Besides the climbs, the intermediate sprints and feeding zones could also play an important tactical role in the race. The finale towards Lobbes looks particularly challenging, with short explosive climbs perfectly suited to punchers and classic-style riders.
This opening stage will immediately provide a first real test for the general classification contenders. Whoever shines here will place themselves in a strong position for the remainder of the Tour de Wallonie.
