It had been known for some time, but now INEOS Grenadiers has shared it with the outside world. The recently retired Geraint Thomas will join the British team as Director of Racing. “This marks the beginning of a new chapter in Geraint’s career and underscores the evolution of the team,” the press release states.
The 2018 Tour winner will take on a prominent leadership role within the management of 'his' INEOS Grenadiers as Director of Racing. He will work closely with Sir Dave Brailsford (Sporting Director), Performance Director Scott Drawer, and other members of the management team. Thomas is expected to provide crucial input on race strategy, rider recruitment and development, and race preparation.
“INEOS Grenadiers has been my home from day one. Taking on this role now feels like a natural next step. I have learned so much from the people around me — teammates and staff alike — and I want to build on our incredible success from the past.”
Winning Grand Tours
“I am passionate about helping the next generation, passing on my experience, and continuing to drive the team in our mission to win Grand Tours again,” Thomas sets the bar high. “The Grenadiers will keep racing with purpose, humility, and a commitment to excellence. I look forward to shaping that future.”

Brailsford is also very enthusiastic: “Geraint is the embodiment of a Grenadier. He has lived and breathed top performance throughout his entire career. He always set himself very ambitious goals and consistently achieved them. He knows what it takes and how to handle the highs and lows of elite sport.”
“His willingness now to share this and guide others to do the same is a huge asset for the team. That he has remained so humble and always kept a great sense of humor are also wonderful qualities to bring into his new role.”
