The Coppa Agostini 2025 was won on Sunday by Adam Yates. After a tough race of nearly 170 kilometers, the British climber from UAE Emirates XRG crossed the finish line solo. Yates did need some luck though, as it seemed to come down to a duel with fellow breakaway rider Carlos Canal (Movistar). However, the Spaniard suffered a flat tire in the final stretch and never caught Yates again.
The Coppa Agostoni covered 169 kilometers with over 3,000 meters of elevation gain. Around Lissone, the race featured a local circuit including the Sirtori (1.5 km at 5.7%), Colle Brianza (3.6 km at 6.4%), and Lissolo (2 km at 6.7%). The fourth and final climb of Colle Brianza came 50 kilometers from the finish, followed by the Lissolo with just under 40 kilometers to go. After that, the route moved over rolling and flat terrain towards the finish line in Lissone.
All eyes were on Isaac Del Toro, the clear favorite for UAE Emirates XRG, who had just won the Giro dell’Emilia yesterday. He had to contend with puncheurs like Andrea Vendrame, Alex Aranburu, Valentin Madouas, Paul Lapeira, Dorian Godon, Kaden Groves, Orluis Aular, and Simone Velasco.
UAE Emirates XRG made it a hard race early on, as more than 100 kilometers from the finish only a small peloton remained. Del Toro was not in it, but Adam Yates, Rafal Majka, and Ivo Oliveira were, alongside riders such as Ion Izagirre, Lapeira, Rémy Rochas, Mauri Vansevenant, Fausto Masnada, Davide Piganzoli, and Andreas Leknessund. That group gained more than two minutes but saw their lead halve as they approached the final circuit with the climbs.
The decisive attack by Adam Yates and Carlos Canal
On the last ascent of Colle Brianza, UAE Emirates XRG finally launched their attack. Ivo Oliveira set up Adam Yates, after which only Carlos Canal (Movistar) could follow. They built a 30-second gap over the rest of the lead group, where Majka and Oliveira acted as disruptors. Yates and Canal crested the final Lissolo climb with a 20-second advantage.
Paul Lapeira and Jay Vine were the first chasers, followed by a depleted peloton including Del Toro. Vine did not contribute to the chase, allowing the peloton to regain ground. With 25 kilometers to go, the gap to the leaders was one and a half minutes, but due to the lack of organization among the pursuers, Yates and Canal were able to extend their lead.

If it had come down to a sprint, Canal would have been the clear favorite; however, Yates had luck on his side. Canal suffered a flat tire with 17 kilometers remaining, forcing a bike change. This gave the Brit a 25-second lead he never relinquished. Yates thus recorded his second win of the season, following his overall victory in the Tour of Oman in February.
About a minute behind second-placed Canal, Simone Velasco (XDS Astana) won the sprint for third ahead of Paul Lapeira and Lorenzo Milesi.
