It had been expected for some time, but now the team has also confirmed it: Allan Peiper will work for Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe starting next year. The 65-year-old Australian will take on the role of strategic advisor at the ambitious German WorldTour squad led by (new) team leader Remco Evenepoel.
With Peiper, Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe brings on board a highly experienced veteran. The former rider has a long history as a sports director, with stints at Lotto, Garmin, HTC-Columbia, and BMC, before guiding Tadej Pogacar at UAE Emirates between 2019 and 2022. He had to step down from that role due to a grueling battle with cancer.
Peiper is now returning to the cycling world, this time as a strategic advisor for another high-profile team with big ambitions: Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe. "Allan not only brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, but also a strong sense of innovation and a true winner’s mindset. Qualities that also characterized his personal fight against cancer," reads a press release.
Clear Vision
In his new role, Peiper will work closely with Chief of Sports Zak Dempster and the team's various performance units "to further refine Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe’s strategic direction and strengthen its sporting philosophy."
"I am very excited to be part of this project," Peiper said. "Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe has made impressive progress in recent years, and I see great potential to further reinforce this structure. It’s about living a clear sporting vision and translating that into daily performance. That’s what drives me."
Significant changes will occur at Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe. The German team has not only added an extra team leader in Remco Evenepoel, but has also made important changes to its technical staff with the arrival of Peiper, a Chief of Sports, Head of Racing, and several sports directors.
Zak Dempster has been appointed by the team as Chief of Sports. Starting next year, the Australian will oversee the entire sporting department of the team. Oliver Cookson will take on the role of Head of Racing, with responsibilities including managing the sports directors. We also see several new faces here, including Klaas Lodewyck, Tony Gallopin, and Sven Vanthourenhout. The latter has already started working at Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe.
