Cian Uijtdebroeks is not the only Movistar rider returning to competition on Wednesday

Due to a small tear in his elbow, Cian Uijtdebroeks was sidelined for a while, but the Belgian climber will don a race number again on Wednesday. As previously indicated, Uijtdebroeks is part of his team Movistar’s squad for Milan-Turin, alongside Einer Rubio. The Colombian is also making his comeback.

Cian Uijtdebroeks was set to participate in Paris-Nice this spring, but the Belgian has to skip the French stage race. The Movistar signing suffered a small tear in his elbow last month during the Tour of Valencia and has not yet fully recovered. He shared this earlier this month in an interview with La Dernière Heure.

"But this withdrawal is not a disaster; the season is still long," the 23-year-old rider immediately noted. "I’ll return at Milan-Turin, an important one-day race to boost morale and get back into the peloton. After that, I’ll ride the Tour of Catalonia (23-29 March), which features many strong contenders," referring to riders like Remco Evenepoel, Jonas Vingegaard, Florian Lipowitz, and Joao Almeida.

One of Uijtdebroeks’ teammates in Milan-Turin is Einer Rubio, who hasn’t raced since early February following a crash at the Tour of Oman. The Colombian pocket climber has now fully recovered and is ready to compete again. The two climbers will face a course tailored to their strengths on Wednesday, as the finale includes two ascents of the well-known steep climb to Superga (4.6 km at 9.2%).

The Movistar squad also includes Jefferson Alveiro Cepeda, Diego Pescador, Natnael Tesfatsion, and two riders who normally race with the development team: Mattia Proietti Gagliardoni and Daniele Forlin.
