Really: Lenny Martinez gives fan in underwear a high-five during Vingegaard attack
When Jonas Vingegaard attacks uphill, few riders can keep up with the Dane. On Sunday, Lenny Martinez proved strong enough to stay on the wheels of the Visma | Lease a Bike leader during the final stage of Paris-Nice. More than that: the young Frenchman even found an opportunity to give a high-five.
All this happened on the slopes of the Côte du Linguador (3.3 km at 8.8%), the last obstacle in the 84th edition of Paris-Nice. Jonas Vingegaard saw the climb as the perfect launchpad on his way to a third stage win and overall victory, but Lenny Martinez had other plans.
The French climber effortlessly followed in Vingegaard’s wake and was clearly not at his limit yet. He even had the time and energy to hand a high-five to a wildly shouting fan dressed only in his... underwear. The footage of the moment has since gone viral on social media.

Martinez didn’t miss that either. "Putain, I just saw a guy in his underwear while I was on Jonas’s wheel. What’s all this about? I want to thank you for the support," responded the Bahrain Victorious rider under the Instagram post.
After the stage, Martinez admitted that it was tough riding on the wheel of his Danish rival. "I struggled a lot, even on the flat. He’s so aerodynamic," he told Cycling Pro Net after the race. "This win proves that I’ve changed a lot, that I’ve really evolved as a rider. I think I’m much more consistent now, at least during this week, because I was strong every single day."
