Del Toro looks ahead: "I've often been in Van der Poel's wheel this week, maybe that helps in San Remo"

Isaac Del Toro crossed the finish line on Sunday afternoon to claim the overall victory at Tirreno-Adriatico, but afterwards he was already looking ahead to Milan-San Remo next week. "I rode in Mathieu van der Poel’s wheel so many times this week, I hope that will help me in Milan-San Remo," said the Mexican.

Riding in support of Tadej Pogacar, Del Toro hopes to make a difference then, he continued. "No, I don’t really need to ride for a result myself there. Since Jhonatan Narvaez and Tim Wellens won’t be racing next week, I want to do my job as a teammate extra well. I love being that rider who can switch roles like that. I just want to learn as much and as quickly as I can."

The Mexican, of course, also spoke about his overall victory. He is obviously very happy about it. "I’ve been coming here for three years and now I win the race. I’m very proud of what we’ve achieved as a team; this is the way I want to race as a team leader."

"I also notice that people back home in Mexico support me enormously. They’re finally beginning to understand the sport. It feels really good to be the first Mexican winner of the Tirreno," he concluded.
