Dwars door Vlaanderen adds two new obstacles this season

The riders participating this season in Dwars door Vlaanderen (Wednesday, April 1) will face two new obstacles on the route. This was announced by the organizers during a press conference.

On Wednesday, April 1, in Roeselare and Waregem, the starting gun will sound for a new edition of Dwars door Vlaanderen for both men and women. This year, the women's race is included for the first time in the UCI Women's WorldTour. After a journey through the Flemish Ardennes, we will know the successors of Neilson Powless and Elisa Longo Borghini.

The men will set off from Stationsplein in Roeselare for the eightieth edition of Dwars door Vlaanderen. The first climb the riders will face is a newcomer: the Hellestraat. This is not the only new challenge, as 77 kilometers from the finish also awaits the Onderbossenaarstraat, a flank of the Taaienberg with a long extension.

Familiar punishing climbs
The race is expected to erupt once again in the Flemish Ardennes, where the riders must conquer Berg Ten Houte, Côte de Trieu, Hotond, and the cobbles of Mariaborrestraat twice. Via the Eikenberg, Doorn, and Huisepontweg, the course leads to a double loop over Nokereberg and the Herlegemstraat.

The women start their Dwars door Vlaanderen on the HippoLoggia site in Waregem. They face 129 kilometers, including six cobbled sections and eight climbs, with the Hellestraat as the only newcomer. The riders only have to climb Berg Ten Houte, Côte de Trieu, Hotond, and Mariaborrestraat once. The finale – featuring two rounds of Nokereberg and Herlegemstraat – is identical to that of the men.

The winners of both races will once again celebrate their victory on Verbindingsweg in Waregem.
