Equipo Kern Pharma seeks new main sponsor
Bad news for Equipo Kern Pharma: the Spanish team must find a new main sponsor. The pharmaceutical company Kern Pharma will step down as the primary financial backer of the squad, including riders like Ivan Sosa and Urko Berrade, at the end of this cycling season.
The Spanish outfit was founded in 2020 and has been registered as a UCI ProTeam since the beginning of 2021. "We have always been able to count on the financial support of Kern Pharma over the past years. This has provided stability and financial strength to the project throughout these seven seasons," the team said in a press statement.
After seven seasons, however, this close collaboration will come to an end. Or as the team puts it: "This marks the end of a period characterized by sporting growth, a focus on young talent, and shared values between sport and health."
Smooth Transition
It remains unclear whether the team is already in talks with a potential new sponsor. "Since the last extension of the sponsorship contract, Kern Pharma and Azcoro Sport (the entity under which the team operates) have worked in perfect harmony to ensure a smooth and successful transition for all parties now that this phase is ending."
"For Kern Pharma, sponsoring the cycling team was much more than a sporting commitment; it was an expression of our principles. Over the past seven years, we have demonstrated our trust in young talent, consistent commitment, and long-term projects. Now it is time to focus our resources on other commercial activities that better align with the current needs of our company," the statement reads.
"We are very grateful to Kern Pharma for their support during this phase of our project. Thanks to them, we have been able to realize many of our dreams and inspire the public. We have experienced moments we will cherish forever, and Kern Pharma will always hold a special place in our history," added former rider and co-owner of the team, Juanjo Oroz.
