Tour de Romandie for women is canceled this year
The organizers of the Tour de Romandie Women have bad news. They are forced to postpone the fifth edition of the Swiss WorldTour race to 2027. This is due to an "abundance of major events in Switzerland and financial circumstances," according to a press release.
The fifth Tour de Romandie Women was originally scheduled from September 4 to 6, 2026, but cannot take place this year. "On one hand, we are dealing with an exceptional concentration of major events in French-speaking Switzerland in the coming months. Due to the many races, the resources essential for organizing an international cycling event are heavily stretched."
Additionally, the organization is facing financial difficulties. "On the other hand, there is currently no sponsor for the 2026 edition. In this context, and out of respect for the local committees already working on organizing the various stages, it seems better to us to make a swift, responsible, and reasonable decision."
"To guarantee the quality and continuity of the race"
"This postponement is also intended to maintain the financial balance of the foundation and, in the long term, to guarantee the quality and continuity of the race," it says.
The organizing committee also announced that the eightieth edition of the men’s Tour de Romandie will take place in April 2027, followed by the fifth women’s edition after the summer. The race was won last year by home rider Elise Chabbey, ahead of Urška Žigart and Yara Kastelijn.
