Florian Vermeersch stays loyal to Tadej Pogačar and UAE Emirates XRG for the coming years

Spring revelation Florian Vermeersch has extended his expiring contract with UAE Emirates XRG. Multiple sources have shared the news with WielerFlits. The 27-year-old Belgian is said to have agreed to a new contract for multiple seasons. The team from the Emirates sees an important role for Vermeersch in support of Tadej Pogačar in the coming years.

The Belgian joined from Lotto Dstny two years ago and has since proven his worth, particularly in the spring classics. Last season, he finished fifth in Paris-Roubaix, and this spring Vermeersch recorded third places in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and the E3 Saxo Classic. After the giants of the sport, the Belgian seems to be the best of the rest this spring. In the Tour of Flanders, he sacrificed himself for team leader and world champion Tadej Pogačar, who won. He will likely have the same role in Paris-Roubaix.

In the coming years, the Slovenian can continue to count on Vermeersch at UAE Emirates XRG. There was considerable interest in the Belgian, as he was one of the strongest riders on the market with a classics profile. Multiple teams reportedly made serious attempts to acquire Vermeersch's services, but all those teams came up empty. Vermeersch reportedly feels comfortable with his current team and has also been promised freedom in certain classics, just like this spring.

According to our information, this has led Vermeersch to extend his expiring contract with Mauro Gianetti’s team by no less than three years. UAE Emirates already has six riders under contract for 2029: of course Pogačar, but also top talents Isaac del Toro and Jan Christen. In addition, promising Spaniards Adrià Pericas and Pablo Torres are part of the group. In the background, there is still simmering interest in super talent Paul Seixas.
