'Four teams fight for signature of Italian breakthrough rider'
Anyone closely following cycling this season has seen his name come up several times: Tommaso Dati. The 23-year-old Italian has broken through this season riding for the modest Team UKYO, and this has not gone unnoticed by the bigger teams. Dati is reportedly attracting interest from four renowned squads.
Tuttobiciweb reports that the fast Italian is drawing attention from WorldTeams XDS Astana, Movistar, Jayco AlUla, and the well-funded, ambitious Pinarello-Q36.5.
In recent months, Dati has turned heads at these teams with strong performances and victories. The rider, known as a puncheur with a fast finishing sprint, secured his first two professional wins this year.
He won sprints from a reduced peloton in both the Settimana Coppi e Bartali and the Tour of the Alps. In the latter race, he was even faster than world-class rider Tom Pidcock, who rides for... Pinarello-Q36.5, the team reportedly interested in Dati.
Trainee at Cofidis
Dati is currently competing in the Tour of Japan, where he got off to an excellent start with victories in both the prologue and the first road stage. The Italian is in his first season with Team UKYO, having previously spent two seasons with the well-known Italian development squad Biesse-Carrera-Premac. At the end of last year, he already got a taste of the big leagues as a stagiaire at Cofidis.
