Giulio Pellizzari takes leader's jersey in Tirreno-Adriatico: "These bonuses won't make the difference"

Giulio Pellizzari is the new leader in Tirreno-Adriatico. The Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe rider lost the sprint to Mathieu van der Poel but gained six crucial bonus seconds and jumped ahead of Isaac Del Toro in the general classification.

"I don’t know how I did it," the Italian laughs afterwards on Eurosport. "Apparently, I sprinted fast. Without Mathieu van der Poel, I would have simply won here, but now I’m second."

How Pellizzari did it, he’s not entirely sure. He actually raced too much from behind. However, Filippo Ganna's attack with 500 meters to go changed a lot for him. "Taking these bonus seconds now is very important. But I don’t think the GC will be decided by this second place."
