Vingegaard and Visma eager for new win: "Had to adjust plan several times"

Jonas Vingegaard is currently in a class of his own at Paris-Nice. The Dane from Visma | Lease a Bike secured his second consecutive stage win on Thursday after a long solo. "I really wanted to win today, but so did the team," he said in the post-race flash interview.

"The team did an amazing job," Vingegaard continued. "They made sure a strong group got away up front. Then we kept them close. We wanted to win and gain as much time as possible. We succeeded. I want to thank my teammates once again. They deserve the champagne tonight."

"We had to adjust the plan a few times. Initially, I wanted to attack where I eventually did, but the breakaway got a bit too much leeway. So we thought I had to bridge on the first climb. But we got pretty close there, so then we said: it’s better to go back to the original plan. The team was there for me. It was great. I’m happy I could repay them. Victor (Campenaerts) also did a fantastic lead-out today."

Revenge
One year isn’t like the next: on the roads where Vingegaard soloed to victory today, he had a heavy crash in Paris-Nice 2025. Did he want revenge? "It’s funny. At one point, I already felt it was like the road where I fell last year. I didn’t know we were going there, but it’s great to take revenge. To win here, on such a beautiful day, with such nice weather and in a very beautiful area, is amazing for me and the team."

Vingegaard now leads Paris-Nice by a commanding three minutes and 22 seconds over second-placed Daniel Felipe Martínez. "But it’s not over yet," the Dane emphasizes. "There are still three stages to go, and a lot can still happen. We have to keep our focus until Nice."
