That was quite a shock for Lorena Wiebes: the Dutch rider was innocently taking a ride on her e-bike this week when she was hit by a motorist. Wiebes, all things considered, escaped with just a scare; however, she is frustrated: the driver did not stop after the collision.
"To the driver who hit me and then didn’t stop: I’m fortunately feeling pretty okay, but this could have ended much worse," the top sprinter shared via Instagram. "Especially since I was hit from behind."
While the motorist simply drove off, two passersby stopped to help Wiebes. "I want to thank those people for that. What’s so frustrating is that nowadays more and more cyclists are dying because they’re hit by cars," the 26-year-old rider highlighted a bigger societal issue.

Wiebes is trying to enjoy her rest period as much as possible these weeks, following a long road season and an extraordinarily successful Track Cycling World Championships in Santiago, Chile. The SD Worx-Protime rider claimed two world titles last month: she successfully defended her world title in the scratch race and was the best in the omnium.
With two rainbow jerseys, Wiebes can look back on a very successful Worlds, but the championship ended on a sour note for her. In the Madison (paired race), she crashed hard together with her partner Lisa van Belle. Afterward, she suffered not only physical pain but also became the target of online hate.
