Mads Pedersen fourth in San Remo comeback: "I really did not expect this"

Mads Pedersen made his comeback today in Milan-San Remo, after being sidelined for six weeks due to a broken wrist and collarbone. Ahead of La Primavera, the Dane downplayed expectations, but he was right there from the start. Pedersen finished fourth on the Via Roma. Even he hadn’t anticipated that.

"This is of course great, I really didn’t expect this," Pedersen said, catching his breath after the race in front of the Eurosport camera. "I had a good day. Unfortunately, I just couldn’t make it onto the podium," said the 30-year-old rider, who won the bunch sprint behind Tadej Pogacar, Tom Pidcock, and Wout van Aert, who escaped in the final kilometers.

Pedersen broke his wrist and collarbone in the opening stage of the Tour of Valencia on February 4th. After a rehabilitation period, he made his comeback in Milan-San Remo. With his fourth place, he seems just ready in time for the Flemish classics and his ultimate dream race: Paris-Roubaix.
