Tom Pidcock makes notable statement after Milan-San Remo: "Pogacar said he won't return here"

Tom Pidcock was gutted after Milan-San Remo. The Brit came within centimeters of his first monument win, so disappointment was his immediate reaction. On Eurosport, Pidcock also made a remarkable statement: "Tadej just told me he’s not coming back to this race anymore."

"I need to reflect on this race," Pidcock begins after the finish. "Right now, I'm mostly disappointed. When you come that close, it really hurts. Yes, I lost to the greatest cyclist of all time, but I can't help feeling disappointed."

"This disappointment is different from last year, when I crashed before the Cipressa. I feel great and I’m glad I was here this year and had the legs... But yeah, I was so close to a win in a monument. Maybe I have to look at it from a distance: what I actually did is amazing. I’m pretty proud. On the Poggio, it got tough to drop Tadej. His way of attacking, where he goes full gas for half a minute then rests a bit, suits me well."

"On the Poggio, it felt like there was a motor in front of me. That won’t be the case next year. Tadej said he’s not coming back to this race," he continues.
