Many crashes on gravel section: Arensman and Jorgenson slip, Van der Poel holds on
The notorious gravel section in Tirreno-Adriatico caused several incidents. In the Italian rain, some riders struggled to keep their bikes upright. The biggest victim was Thymen Arensman, who lost over a minute and dropped out of the GC contention.
Arensman was still well positioned near the end of the gravel sector, in a group including Filippo Ganna, but then slid out and lost a lot of time. Just before that, Van der Poel had also nearly crashed in the same corner. Isaac Del Toro saw this happen and decided to launch an attack, but was later caught again by Van der Poel.

Matteo Jorgenson
When entering the gravel section, we also saw Visma rider Matteo Jorgenson crash. The American was well positioned on Van der Poel’s wheel when he launched his attack, but went down and was no longer able to play a meaningful role in the finale.
💥 Jorgenson is down, and so is Thymen Arensman a bit later 👀
Even Mathieu is slipping on these roads, but he's in the lead with Pellizzari and Isaac del Toro
