Marion Norbert Riberolle suffers concussion after chaotic cyclocross world championships

Marion Norbert Riberolle suffered a concussion as a result of her participation in the Cyclocross World Championships. Her team, Crelan-Corendon, announced this via social media the day after the title race in Hulst.

Tumultuous: that’s how we can describe Norbert Riberolle’s performance at the Cyclocross World Championships. The Belgian champion, after a slow start, was competing for the bronze medal but was disqualified in the final of the race due to a push against Kristýna Zemanová.

The incident took place in the fifth lap (out of six) and was the result of a crash involving both riders after a risky overtaking attempt by Zemanová. This caused frustration for the Belgian, who pushed her away with both hands. Norbert Riberolle was then disqualified, although she continued riding on the course.

Soon after, she was suddenly seen lying beside the barriers, after slowing down and clutching her head. For a while, it was unclear what had happened and exactly what was wrong with Norbert Riberolle, but Sporza reported that she suffered a panic attack while on the bike and felt chest pain, which resulted in her being taken to the hospital.

Reassuring
A day later, her team Crelan-Corendon provided an update. “After her crash at the World Championships, she suffered a concussion. The medical examinations were, however, reassuring. Aside from mild headaches, there are no further complaints. Marion’s participation in the race in Maldegem therefore does not appear to be at risk.”
