Matthew Brennan is sick and skips Milan-San Remo
Matthew Brennan will not make his debut in Milan-San Remo 2026 on Saturday. The 20-year-old Brit was named a dark horse favorite for the win in La Primavera, but he fell ill during the night from Thursday to Friday. Visma | Lease a Bike calls up Victor Campenaerts as a replacement.
The loss of Brennan is unfortunate for the Dutch team. On the other hand, they were set to start with four protected leaders and three riders in support. With the addition of in-form Campenaerts, that balance has now reversed. Wout van Aert, Matteo Jorgenson, and Christophe Laporte remain the team leaders. Edoardo Affini and Owain Doull complete the selection.
According to the team, Brennan would have been a dark horse if he could have sprinted for the win on the Via Roma. The British top talent broke through immediately last year as a neo-pro and even received a star in WielerFlits’s preview. There is also a major interview with the powerful sprinter in the brand-new RIDE Magazine.
