Matthew Brennan praises teamwork: "I only had to lead for 100 meters"

A convincing sprint victory for Matthew Brennan in Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne. The prodigy of Visma | Lease a Bike wrapped it up comfortably in the final sprint after a tough race.

"I was nervous all day after the heavy crash yesterday," the young Brit began his story in the flash interview. "The guys gave everything to bring me back, Pietro Mattio really had to work hard. From the Kruisberg, I was able to be part of the race. We wanted to make the race hard, take the initiative, because that would be best for us.

"Everyone was amazing," Brennan praised his teammates. "Until the last two kilometers, everyone was still there, Christophe Laporte did a fantastic lead-out. I did the easy work, only had to pull at the front for about a hundred meters. I can't thank them enough."

"As a junior, I saw the pros a few times in this race. Now I've won it myself, which is special. I will do my best to also win the Tour of Flanders, In Flanders Fields (Gent-Wevelgem, editor’s note), and those kinds of iconic races. That might take a little longer, but this is already very beautiful."
