Philipsen shows strength but falls short in sprint: "No fresh legs left"
No second consecutive win for Jasper Philipsen in Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne. After a tough race, in which he launched several strong accelerations, he ultimately couldn’t make an impact in the final sprint.
Philipsen didn’t even place in the top ten on the day’s results. “I thought Jordi Meeus’s wheel was the right one, I assumed his team would line it up well. But then it happened on the other side,” the Flemish rider from Ham analyzes the sprint.
“But I also didn’t have fresh legs anymore,” Philipsen has to admit. A few times, the Alpecin-Premier Tech sprinter launched sharp attacks on the climbs. He also had to change bikes twice due to mechanical problems. “I was just empty at the end. It was really tough. The sprint didn’t quite come together, but that’s how it goes,” he resigns himself to the result.
