Tudor bounces back after 'shit day' in Kuurne: "Sometimes you have to use bad luck as motivation"
Tudor Pro Cycling faced numerous crashes in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, but a day later they stood on the podium with two riders. Luca Mozzato finished second, Matteo Trentin third. After the race, both were happy with their performance.
"I’m quite happy, honestly, because yesterday was a very tough day for us as a team," Mozzato said in the flash interview. "We had many crashes. Last night we were a bit sad because a few guys went down hard," referring to Rick Pluimers (who broke two teeth) and Stefan Küng (broken left femur). "I’m glad we could bounce back today."
Against winner Against winner Matthew Brennan, there was nothing to be done, Mozzato admitted. "He had a big gap on me. I got the most out of it that I could. I can be happy with the podium. The hill section was quite tough for me. I had to suffer and was never really at the front. At the end, I managed to recover for the sprint. It was enough for a good result."
Trentin: "Sometimes you have to use bad luck as motivation"
For Trentin, it was "a bit unexpected" to be on the podium. "After all the energy I spent during the day, on the climbs... I didn’t expect to still have such a good sprint. I also had to come from quite far back compared to the first two guys, so I’m happy."
The Italian also reflected on Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, where Tudor had to deal with a lot of adversity. "Sometimes you have to use bad luck as motivation. We started today with only five riders because half the team had to go to the hospital yesterday. The other half, including myself, had to see the doctor. So yes, yesterday was a shit day."
"Today, we got the most out of it. These podium spots are for Rick Pluimers, Stefan Küng, Marco Haller, for Petr Kelemen, who rode at the front all day today, even after crashing yesterday. It’s always a team effort."
