Not only Pedersen: Tobias Foss breaks shoulder blade in crash at Tour of Valencia

The first stage of the Tour of Valencia was won by Biniam Girmay, but the race was marred by a major crash. Mads Pedersen was the most notable victim – the Dane broke his left wrist and right collarbone – but Tobias Foss also ended up seriously injured.

The former time trial world champion will have to watch from the sidelines in the coming period. "Unfortunately, Tobias Foss will not start the second stage following a crash yesterday during the Tour of Valencia," his team INEOS Grenadiers announced on social media.

"He was examined at a local hospital, where a fracture in his right scapula was diagnosed. Tobias has since been discharged from the hospital and will continue his recovery under the care of the INEOS Grenadiers medical team. We wish you a speedy recovery, Tobias!" the team encouraged him.

Foss’s new cycling season has started on a low note. The 28-year-old all-rounder is entering his third season riding for INEOS Grenadiers, after previously spending several years with (then) Jumbo-Visma. It is currently unclear how long the former winner of the Circuit de la Future will be sidelined.
