Patrick Lefevere spent more than three weeks in the hospital. The former CEO of Soudal-Quick Step was "seriously ill," but the 70-year-old West Flemish man has now been discharged. "The road to recovery is still long," he shared via X.
"I have been through 24 very difficult days, during which I was seriously ill," Lefevere writes on his social media. "I received the best possible care and am now allowed to leave the hospital."
However, this does not mean Lefevere has fully recovered. "The road to recovery is still long, but I am on the right path. I want to thank all the specialists and nurses for the excellent care." The reason Lefevere was admitted to AZ Delta in Roeselare remains unclear.

I am now allowed to leave the hospital. A long recovery still lies ahead, but I’m on the right path. Thank you to all specialists and nurses for the excellent treatment. Patrick pic.twitter.com/eRXpt6z5ny

The former cyclist and team manager was also hospitalized earlier this year, in March, at the University Hospital of Ghent. Lefevere became unwell at a restaurant following a drop in blood pressure, something the former rider and team boss experiences regularly. However, he was able to leave the hospital quickly on that occasion.
Lefevere has now been retired as CEO of Soudal Quick-Step for nearly a year. At the beginning of December, he announced his departure – after more than twenty years – as the driving force behind the Belgian powerhouse. The outspoken Lefevere handed over the reins to Jurgen Foré, who was already the operational director of the team last year.
