Tadej Pogacar was by far the strongest cyclist in the world in 2025. One of the few who could sometimes still challenge him was Remco Evenepoel. The Belgian hopes to take another step towards Pogacar’s level with his new team Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe. The latter is watching Evenepoel’s transfer with wary eyes.
"The change could be good for Remco," Pogacar says in an interview with Sporza about Evenepoel, who is switching from Soudal Quick-Step to Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe this winter. "He went from one super team to another. It will be interesting to see if he can still take a step forward. I hope not, because I already find him pretty strong and dominant. It intimidates me if he gets even better. But I do think he will do well. The whole world will be watching his upcoming moves with great interest."
Over the past season, Pogacar and Evenepoel faced each other several times. In most cases, the Slovene had the upper hand, but on a few occasions, the Belgian was stronger. However, that was always in time trials (based on results). For example, Evenepoel won the time trial at the Critérium du Dauphiné, the first time trial in the Tour de France, and the World Time Trial Championships. In that last chrono, Evenepoel even caught Pogacar, who had started ahead of him. In the Amstel Gold Race, Pogacar finished (second) ahead of Evenepoel (third), but the latter did manage to come back to the previously escaped Slovene.
