Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe surprises with Primoz Roglic in Milan-San Remo lineup

Primoz Roglic will participate in Milan-San Remo on Saturday. This was revealed by Laurence Pithie on the Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe website.

“I think San Remo is a tricky race to understand, and it’s always changing,” Pithie says in an extensive interview, where he also looks ahead to Milan-San Remo. “It used to be more of a sprinters’ race, but with Pogačar going full gas on the Cipressa, you really need to be a strong climber now. Honestly, I don’t think you can ever fully understand the race, but positioning is definitely very important.”

Pithie expects the Cipressa to be the decisive point in the race. “That was the case last year when Pogačar attacked, and I think they probably have the same goal this year. Our plan will be to follow that move if possible with Primoz and Giulio,” he refers to Primoz Roglic and Giulio Pellizzari. “For me, it’s about seeing where I stand and trying to be there. And if it comes back to a sprint, then sprinting for the best possible result.”

Two previous participations
Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe has not yet announced the full squad for La Primavera, but Roglic will be there. The 36-year-old Slovenian is already in the middle of an Italian block: he finished fifth last week in Tirreno-Adriatico and third on Wednesday in Milan-Turin. He has raced Milan-San Remo twice before. In 2017 he placed 67th, and in 2022 he finished seventeenth.
