Remco Evenepoel gains Basque talent as teammate at Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe
Haimar Etxeberria makes the step up to the WorldTour. The 22-year-old Basque, who raced last season for Equipo Kern Pharma, has signed a one-year contract with Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe.
“With Haimar, we are adding a rider who fits perfectly with our long-term vision," says Zak Dempster, 'Chief of Sports' at Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe in a press release. "Of course, he is still at the beginning of his career, but he is eager to learn and his talent makes him a promising rider for one-day races and tougher sprint finishes. We are confident that he will find the ideal environment here to further develop his potential.”
Etxeberria himself is very happy to join Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe. "From the first conversations, I felt a lot of trust and received a clear vision of how I can grow here. I am motivated for this new chapter and look forward to contributing to the project. It’s a team I have closely followed since the days of Peter Sagan. Being part of a team with the biggest stars is a special feeling. I am very grateful for the opportunity and to be able to make the step to the WorldTour at the age of 22.”
Etxeberria became a stagiaire with Equipo Kern Pharma in August 2024, after previously racing for the development squad of the Spanish ProTeam. In 2025, he turned professional for real and immediately secured his first victory. He won the Vuelta a Castilla y Leon (1.1) at the end of July by edging out Jesús Herrada, Christian Scaroni, and Lukas Kubis in a sprint from a small group.
