An interesting cycling transfer behind the scenes: Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe has signed Xabier Artetxe as their new coach. The 47-year-old Spaniard is recognized worldwide as a renowned trainer and sports scientist.
Artetxe has extensive experience in the cycling world, having previously worked with development team Seguros Bilbao U23 and pro teams Caja Rural-Seguros RGA, Movistar, and Team Sky/INEOS Grenadiers. At the British star outfit, he served for ten years as head coach, sports scientist, and personal trainer to leaders Carlos Rodríguez and Egan Bernal.
The two parties parted ways in October 2024, but the Basque has now found a new challenge with Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe. The coach himself announced the move through an update on his LinkedIn profile, revealing that he has been part of the German team's structure since last October.
Close collaboration with Evenepoel?
At Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, he will work with riders including Primož Roglič, Giulio Pellizzari, and of course newcomer Remco Evenepoel, although it remains unclear whether Artetxe will have a direct, close working relationship with the Belgian superstar.
Artetxe's work is not limited to cycling, as he also collaborates with top athletes from other disciplines, including Formula 1 driver Carlos Sainz.
