Sarah Gigante is still recovering from the thigh fracture she sustained in August, but her rehabilitation is now progressing well. So well, in fact, that the AG Insurance-Soudal Team rider can now truly start preparing for her return to the peloton.
Gigante had a remarkable 2025, marked by high peaks and deep lows. At the start of the year, the Australian was still recovering from surgery on her femoral artery, after which she made a comeback, winning two stages in the Giro d'Italia and becoming one of the standout riders in the Tour de France Femmes. She then hoped to gear up for the Road World Championships in Rwanda.
However, barely two weeks after the Tour, misfortune struck again when Gigante crashed during training and broke her thigh. This marked the beginning of a long rehabilitation, but now there is a bright light at the end of the tunnel. "I am doing well. I feel good both physically and mentally," the climbing revelation shared on her Belgian team's website.
Return in March
"It's really nice that after the past months of rehabilitation, I have been able to ride outside for a few weeks now. I'm positive about the progress and excited about what lies ahead. I plan to start my season in March."

Gigante's patience was tested over the past months, but she remained optimistic. "It’s definitely great to be outside again, but I feel like I’ve already trained hard over the past months. I’d even say it was more intensive and consistent than what I do during my normal training. Besides riding on the smart trainer, I was also doing daily fitness and physiotherapy."
"I’m very proud of my perseverance. Sometimes it was hard to keep motivating myself for endless sessions on my Zwift bike or to meticulously do my physiotherapy exercises each time. But I kept going and tried to enjoy the process."
