Toms Skujins (Lidl-Trek) feels guilty after team time trial: "Responsible for the defeat"
Toms Skujins was devastated after the team time trial at Paris-Nice. The Latvian had to drop out early in the TTT, leaving his team Lidl-Trek one rider short in the finale for the victory. The gap to the winning INEOS Grenadiers at the finish was just two seconds.
"What a shitty day to have a shitty day," the Latvian begins his story on Instagram. "I am almost solely responsible for the team missing out on the win in the team time trial," he is very hard on himself.
"With six riders, they finished only two seconds behind the winners. This is a bitter pill to swallow when you’ve worked so hard all winter and then let the team down," Skujins admits his fault.

"But hard work alone is not enough in this sport. It's not about how often you face defeat, but how often you can get back up afterwards. Fortunately, I still have five days to redeem myself and prove that I am worthy of the Lidl-Trek colors."
Support from Ayuso
His teammate Juan Ayuso — who is the new leader at Paris-Nice — responded under Skujins’ post with some encouraging words. "We’ll come back stronger." Julien Bernard and Carlos Verona (not participating in the French stage race) also sent him their support.
