The international cycling union UCI has suspended Vinícius Rangel Costa for twenty months. The 24-year-old Brazilian – who previously rode for Movistar – must serve his sanction for violating anti-doping regulations.
Rangel failed to properly update his whereabouts on three occasions within one year and now faces the consequences. In accordance with the World Anti-Doping Code (Code) and the UCI Anti-Doping Regulations (UCI ADR), the suspension runs from August 27, 2025, to April 26, 2027.
The rider does not appear to be appealing his sanction. “The case has been resolved by accepting the consequences,” reads a press statement.
From 2022 until the end of 2024, Rangel was part of the professional peloton as a rider for Movistar. While riding for the Spanish telecom team, he did not achieve noteworthy results, and in August 2024, the Brazilian decided to leave the WorldTour squad With immediate effect.
He then returned to his home country, where he raced for the continental team Swift Pro Cycling. Representing this formation, he distinguished himself in the past road season with strong placings in the Vuelta a San Juan (8th overall), Volta Ciclística de Goiás (5th), and Vuelta Ciclista del Uruguay (2nd).
