Adam Yates looks forward to extending Green Mountain: "I might even do a altitude camp there!"
With an all-or-nothing attempt, Adam Yates tried at the last moment on Wednesday to take control of the Tour of Oman 2026. The British leader of UAE Emirates XRG lost time earlier this week due to a crash and started his move early on the final climb. To no avail, as three riders proved stronger. No worries, though, because he’ll be back next year. He tells WielerFlits.
"We were already so far behind (32 seconds behind leader Mauro Schmid before the final stage, ed.), so I had nothing to lose," Yates begins about his early attack. "I wasn’t really interested in the stage win, but in the overall victory."
"I hoped that if I kept pushing like that, eventually everyone else would crack. But towards the end of the stage, there were a few guys stronger than I was. Sometimes that’s just how it goes. At least we can say we tried. The result is the result."
Longer Green Mountain
The 33-year-old Brit also revealed during the conversation that the organizers aim for an even higher finish on Green Mountain next year. They are currently working hard on this in Oman. Yates would like to return there.
"That would be great! There will even be a hotel at the summit. If they allow us to get a longer visa for Oman, I might also come here for a training camp ahead of the race. The weather is good, and you can train well here. In January and February, there are not many options for altitude training in Europe. So this would be a nice option."
