Celebrating Paul Magnier was still unsure of new sprint victory after the race

Paul Magnier also struck during the second sprint opportunity in the Giro d'Italia. "I have now proven that I can compete with the best sprinters in the world," he said after an intense battle against Jonathan Milan and Dylan Groenewegen.

"I dreamed about it and the goal was to go for the stage win again," the Frenchman opened his flash interview. "The team did a great job today, we controlled the race and got into a good position in the final kilometers."

Not sure
Magnier had a small lead over Groenewegen and Milan heading towards the finish line but saw the duo rapidly charging in the closing meters. The man in purple was therefore not sure of his victory, despite raising his hands in the air after the line. "I was not sure I had won. After celebrating, I thought: 'oh, I’m not sure'. But all’s well that ends well, so I’m very happy."

Magnier’s new win confirms his strong form. Where he won the sprint from a reduced peloton on the first day, today he was the strongest in the bunch sprint. "I have to honestly say that I feel very good and have now proven that I can compete with the best sprinters in the world. I am trying to enjoy this moment."

The in-form sprinter does not want to look ahead just yet. "I don’t want to think about the next opportunities yet. First, we travel to Italy and will enjoy this second victory. Once we are in Italy, we will go for it again."
