Fem van Empel will start her cyclocross season next Sunday at the Superprestige in Ruddervoorde. After that, she will compete in two Dutch cyclocross races. The world champion consciously chooses to race in her home country.
"I will kick off the season in Ruddervoorde," Van Empel said earlier this week during a press moment including WielerFlits. "Shortly after, I’ll race the Nacht van Woerden (Tuesday, October 21). And in the same week, I will also compete in the Exact Cross Heerderstrand (Saturday, October 25) and the Superprestige Overijse (Sunday, October 26)."
With the Nacht van Woerden and Exact Cross Heerderstrand, she will race two Dutch cyclocross events at the start of her season. "I deliberately added those to my program. I just think it’s very important to line up there as a Dutch rider. There are fewer and fewer cyclocross races in the Netherlands where the youth can compete. Since I am now a full-time cyclocrosser, I find it important to participate in those races as well."
