More and more details about the 2026 Giro d'Italia are leaking. Although the official route presentation will not take place until December 1, we already know that next year’s Giro will start in Bulgaria, include a detour to Switzerland, visit Blockhaus, and now also... that the penultimate stage finishes in Piancavallo. This is the climb where Tao Geoghegan Hart and Wilco Kelderman fought for the stage win in 2020.
According to SpazioCiclismo, the 20th stage of next year’s Giro will start in Gemona del Friuli, after which the riders will pass through the municipalities of Buja, Majano, Colloredo di Monte Albano , via Lake Barcis to Aviano. The finale will unfold on the climb to Piancavallo (14.3 kilometers at 7.9%), which must be conquered twice.
In 2020, Hart and Kelderman only had to climb Piancavallo once. The Brit took the stage victory, while Kelderman, by finishing second, made up more than half a minute on pink jersey wearer Joao Almeida. Later, Kelderman took over the pink jersey, only to lose it again to Hart during the final weekend.
