Harrie Lavreysen could already look back on a memorable 2025, but after this weekend he can add another national champion’s jersey to his already overflowing wardrobe. The 28-year-old from Brabant claimed his seventh national title in the keirin at the Dutch Nationals in Apeldoorn.
Lavreysen proved too strong for Daan Hool and Jeffrey Hoogland at the Omnisport, securing one last title in 2025. At the recent World Championships in Chile, the Lightning Bolt from Luyksgestel had already surpassed himself. Lavreysen became world champion four times there, bringing his career total to twenty world titles.
On the velodrome in Santiago, Chile, Lavreysen won world titles in the sprint, keirin, team sprint, and the kilometer time trial. It was the first time in his career that the track sprinter managed to become world champion in all four sprint disciplines. Earlier this year, in February, he also won two European titles on the track.
Due to his many successes, Lavreysen was named both Cyclist and Sportsman of the Year in 2025. In both awards, he finished ahead of riders including Mathieu van der Poel.

The Dutch Track Cycling Championships run from December 27 to 29. Besides Lavreysen, Steffie van der Peet (sprint, elite women), Vincent Hoppezak (scratch, elite men), Philip Heijnen (points race, elite men), and Mischa Bredewold (individual pursuit, elite women) also took home honors. Last week, the national titles in the omnium were already claimed by Jan-Willem van Schip and Lorena Wiebes.
