Hindley must hold off Arensman in final mountain stage: "Everyone will be very tired from yesterday"

Jai Hindley still has to survive a tough mountain stage in the Giro d'Italia to reach the podium. The Australian holds a 29-second lead over closest rival Thymen Arensman but is not counting his chickens yet. "I am very happy to have moved up a spot, but today is really still a very tough stage."
"It's going to be a super hard day," he says before the start to Cycling Pro Net. "For many riders, this is the last day there is still something to fight for. I expect that everyone will race either offensively or defensively, depending on their position."

Hindley still remembers Piancavallo well from 2020, where he fought for the overall win in the Giro d'Italia alongside Tao Geoghegan Hart. "It is really a brutal climb," he recalls. "And we do it twice again. Everyone will still be very tired from yesterday, so it will definitely be a demanding day."

"I can imagine the pace on the first ascent of Piancavallo will already be very high, after which everyone will go all out on the second climb. Fortunately, I am just starting to feel good again in time, after having to take antibiotics last week due to illness."
