Jorgenson admits Del Toro was stronger: "Unfortunately didn’t have yesterday’s legs"

Visma | Lease a Bike went all out for the blue leader’s jersey in the queen stage of Tirreno-Adriatico. Matteo Jorgenson had to settle for third place in the stage result and remains third in the overall classification. GC leader Isaac Del Toro was simply too strong, the American admitted after the race.

“Today went quite well,” Jorgenson begins his story on the Visma | Lease a Bike website. “We started the day with the ambition to fight for the overall classification. It seemed smartest to make a move on the final climb, partly because of the strong headwind in the last ten kilometers. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the legs I had yesterday, but Isaac was just the strongest. I’m grateful for the team’s support and happy to be on the final podium.”

Visma | Lease a Bike rode very well as a team, says team director Jesper Mørkøv. "We were well positioned all day, and with Timo (Kielich) in the early breakaway, we had an extra card to play later in the race. On the last short climbs, we pushed the pace hard, but in the end, it came down to a battle between the favorites on the final climb. Matteo was very strong, but Del Toro was ultimately stronger.”
