Marianne Vos expects a different race dynamic in San Remo Donne than last year
Marianne Vos is looking forward to her second participation in Milan-San Remo for women. Last year’s runner-up expects the race dynamics to be very different from 2025, when Lorena Wiebes took the win, and she is supported in this view by team director Jan Boven.
"The race was quite cautious back then, perhaps because it was the first time it was on the calendar. This year, the race might unfold differently," Boven explains.
Vos agrees. The Dutchwoman also expects the action to start early this year: "Last year, it was our first time here. You know what to expect, but there’s still some testing the waters. One thing is certain: the Cipressa and Poggio will ignite fireworks."
Complex race
“Actually, it’s quite a straightforward race, yet very complex at the same time. That’s what makes Milan-San Remo so beautiful. We will try to use our strengths as best as possible. We have a strong lineup at the start. The feeling at the Trofeo Alfredo Binda was good, but of course, as a team, we want more.”
Vos will have to deliver for the team at San Remo, although Boven points out that the squad has several trump cards, including Sarah Van Dam and Femke de Vries.
"It shouldn’t come as a surprise that we focus on Marianne when it comes down to a sprint in Sanremo. If another race scenario unfolds, we obviously have multiple cards to play. We are ready to make it a very exciting race."
