Tadej Pogacar confident in Milan-San Remo win: "I get closer every year"
Tadej Pogacar also gave a major interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport ahead of Milan-San Remo. The Slovenian is confident that he can take the win this year in La Primavera, but will his attack on the Cipressa actually come?
Third, third, fourth, fifth, twelfth. Those are all the results of the world champion in San Remo. What does that tell us about Pogacar? "That other riders have been better than me. It’s also no secret that the course isn’t tailor-made for me. But the progress in my results shows that I get closer every year."
"Every time I lose here, I learn something new or notice something I can use in the future to actually win the race," he continues.
Many variables
In 2024, Pogacar learned, for example, that he might be able to make the race if he attacks on the Cipressa. But will that happen again on Saturday? "That’s hard to say. Every San Remo has its own story. The weather, the participants, the conditions… There are too many variables. You can have a plan coming out of Pavia, but a lot can change along the way and you have to be ready to adapt your plan."
"Ultimately, San Remo is won on the Via Roma. There are many riders who can do it here. Think of my good friend Jasper Philipsen, who beat me in a sprint here two years ago," he concludes.
