Matthew Brennan wins after tough week at Visma | Lease a Bike: "It didn’t always go as hoped"
With Matthew Brennan's victory in the final stage of the Tour Down Under, Visma | Lease a Bike celebrated their first win of the season. The 20-year-old rider’s triumph brought extra relief as the Australian race had been far from smooth for the Dutch squad.
The relief was evident in Brennan’s reaction. "I’m very happy with this win. The past week didn’t always go as hoped and results were hard to come by, but as a team we worked hard every day and gave 100% in every stage. To see that rewarded is extra special," said the Brit, who already finished second in the second stage.
The rising talent also indicated that this victory is an important confidence boost for him. "This gives me a lot of confidence for the upcoming races in the spring. It’s been a learning week with ups and downs. But today we did what we had to do, and that gives me a lot of confidence," Brennan concluded.
This year, Brennan will complete a full spring campaign for the first time with key Classics like Milan-Sanremo, the Tour of Flanders, and Paris-Roubaix. Additionally, the Vuelta a España is one of his major goals for this season.
