No serious injuries for Paul Magnier, team continues to monitor French talent

Besides Jasper Philipsen, the French sprinter Paul Magnier was also one of the victims of a crash in the final stage of Tirreno-Adriatico in San Benedetto del Tronto. His team Soudal Quick-Step now provides an update on his condition.

In a corner about three kilometers from the finish, Magnier's handlebars got tangled with those of the other fast man, Jasper Philipsen. While the rider from Limburg got up immediately, Magnier remained on the ground for longer. After the finish, the medical staff of Soudal Quick-Step conducted the necessary examinations.

"They were able to rule out serious injuries," said Soudal Quick-Step in a press release. "The team will continue to monitor him. Magnier sustained some abrasions on his lower back and a small wound on his knee from the crash."

By reacting quickly, lead-out man Laurenz Rex was still able to sprint for the closest podium place behind Jonathan Milan. "We rode all day for Paul because we had confidence in his sprint, but unfortunately he crashed. With one kilometer to go, I was on Dries Van Gestel's wheel and was able to launch a good sprint. At the same time, it’s frustrating because with Paul involved, we were fully confident we could win. Results don't really matter now – we mainly hope he’s okay,” said Rex.

The next race for the French rising star is Milan-San Remo, but according to the team, he will race mainly to gain experience. This spring, Magnier is focusing primarily on the Flemish classics.
